There’s a familiar pattern to the week. Mornings that start gently and gather pace. Afternoons that spill between quays, streets, and small corners of activity. And then evenings, when everything draws back towards the Town Quay. Some things you return to without really thinking about it. The Dog Show down at Caffa Mill. Children leaning over the edge at Albert Quay, lines dropped into the water, completely absorbed in crab catching. The carnival threading its way through town, familiar but never quite the same twice. Elsewhere, some moments give the week its shape. The Royalty Crowning up at Fowey Hall Hotel. The Flora Dance weaving through the streets in that way that feels both timeless and slightly surreal. And always, somewhere in the background or just around the corner, the Town Band, who will be … town banding (and if you know, you know).

It’s not all tradition, though. This year brings a new event: a Teddy Tumble at Place, it’s one of those things that will likely make more sense once you see it than read about it. The Classic Car Show at Fowey River Academy returns, drawing people and cars from far and wide. And then there are the details that belong entirely to Fowey. Shops joining in with their own Traders’ Carnival, windows and interiors taking on a Mardi Gras theme this year. The Giant Pasty making its appearance, as it must. Fireworks out over the water, reflected in the harbour, watched from every possible vantage point.

Open when it can be, run by volunteers, and always worth a visit.
