There's something about Fowey that gets under your skin. A town that knows exactly what it is - independent, characterful,  proud - where centuries-old quays sit alongside independent boutiques, and where the kind of conversation that changes things can still happen over a coffee at a networking event.

That's precisely how LoveFowey.com came to be. A chance exchange between Rachel Roberts and Will Maher sparked an idea: that a town this distinctive deserved a digital home worthy of it. Something that could hold together the businesses, the stories, the events, and the people that make Fowey so worth celebrating - and present them to the world with the same warmth and character the town itself offers to anyone who finds their way here.

Fowey has always possessed a rare quality: a place with character, where independent shops shoulder up against centuries-old quays, where a book festival can fill the streets with literary pilgrims, and where the Daphne du Maurier connection is worn with pride. It is, in the best possible sense, a town that knows what it is.

"It's a town that celebrates its heritage alongside a modern, creative spirit - a place where people don't just visit, they belong."

Now, that sense of belonging has found a digital home. LoveFowey.com, a beautifully designed, community-driven website, has arrived to celebrate everything that makes this corner of South Cornwall so enticing. Created by Rachel Roberts and Will Maher of WM Designs, it unites local businesses, culture, and community in one elegant showcase of Fowey's vibrant spirit.

The story behind Love Fowey

The idea of a dedicated online home for Fowey began some years ago, when Sinead Hanks and Nick Griffiths, having relocated their young family from London to Sinead's childhood town, set up the original Love Fowey website and Facebook page. After building businesses of their own in Fowey and throwing themselves into community life, they eventually moved on to Penryn. The project found a natural new home in November last year, when a chance conversation at a local networking breakfast, and a subsequent chat with Victoria Clark of Readymoney Beach Shop about the Love Fowey Facebook page, brought Rachel and Will into the picture. They have carried that founding spirit forward ever since, deepening its roots and expanding its reach.

The founding instinct behind LoveFowey is inclusivity. Whether you run a hospitality business, a gallery, a self-catering hideaway, or a community project within the Fowey Parish, you can list completely free - ensuring every voice in the community is heard. Businesses a little further afield can join for a modest fee, while tasteful advertising options let enterprises reach both residents and visitors year-round.

Browsing LoveFowey evokes the pleasure of wandering Fowey's narrow streets: each click reveals another discovery, independent boutiques alongside heritage institutions, community events next to fine dining. The design mirrors the town itself - clean, contemporary, warm, and intuitive. It is, crucially, made to be used on a phone as well as tablet or desktop computer, which is how most of us actually explore a place we love.

What you'll find inside

  • A directory of all the places to eat, shop, stay in Fowey, as well as ideas for days out in and around the area

  • Fowey's most comprehensive events calendar - regattas, exhibitions, book signings, live music, and fundraisers

  • The InFowey News Blog, with features, interviews, and insider stories about local people and projects

  • The Inside Small Fowey Business series - taking a peek behind the scenes of some of our most loved businesses

More than a directory...

What sets LoveFowey apart is its ambition to be a genuine gathering place rather than a mere index. The platform's events calendar is the most comprehensive in the area (and growing), drawing together everything from the Fowey Festival to sailing regattas, art exhibitions to charity quiz nights, all in one place, no more cross-referencing noticeboards or scrolling through Facebook groups.

The InFowey Blog brings local news focus: fresh features, local interviews, and the kind of intimate portraits of community life. And the Inside Small Business series – Rachel’s ongoing project,  goes further still, revealing not just where to go, but who makes it all happen. The gallery owner who converted a bank into a warm and welcoming home for conversation and art, the beach shop owner who ensured that there was somewhere to go to the loo when people visited Readymoney Cove, the coffee shop owner whose place has become a place for people to meet. These are the stories that hold a town together.

"In an algorithm-driven world, LoveFowey offers something rarer: authentic curation - a proudly local window into seaside life."

Behind the platform sits the complementary partnership of Will's design expertise and Rachel’s marketing and communications strategy. The result bridges two very different needs: the stylish appeal that catches a visitor's eye, and the grounded utility that people need. Their vision honours Fowey's particular balance of heritage and innovation, welcoming shopkeepers and sailors, weekenders and year-rounders, with equal warmth.

It is, in the end, a website that has been created out of a love for Fowey. Enterprise and artistry intertwined, stories shared, community energy amplified. A proudly local window into Fowey life - because the algorithm will never quite capture what it feels like to watch the ferry cross at dusk, or hear the rigging sing in the harbour on a windy morning.
